Mullins has decided not to declare for the NBA Draft and will stick with the Huskies for his sophomore season, as he announced on Instagram on Saturday.
Mullins’ father also confirmed that his son was returning to UConn on his social media account.
The 6-foot-6 guard established a place in March Madness immortality with his buzzer-beating shot from the half-court logo that gave UConn a miraculous 73-72 win over Duke and put the Huskies into the Final Four for the third time in four seasons.
Mullins was viewed as a first-round pick had he left UConn. Yahoo Sports’ Kevin O’Connor projected him as the No. 15 overall selection in his latest mock draft. However, he is almost certain to improve his standing among NBA scouts and evaluators by showing he can create his own shot and continuing to improve his defense during his sophomore campaign.
Rated a four-star prospect by Rivals, Mullins signed with UConn out of Greenfield-Central High School in Indiana. He chose the Huskies over Michigan, North Carolina, Indiana and Alabama.
As a freshman, Mullins averaged 12 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists and one steal in 33 games with the Huskies. He shot 34% on 215 3-point attempts, though the consensus is that his skill should result in a higher percentage next season.
