On Wednesday, the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board released the full list of suspensions from the event, which was headlined by Sean Strickland reclaiming the UFC middleweight title in a close split decision win over Khamzat Chimaev.
While he walked away victorious, Strickland admitted after the fight that he definitely got banged up during the five-round battle against Chimaev. The athletic commission obviously agreed after handing Strickland an indefinite suspension until he gains clearance by an orthopedist for a possible left hand injury.
Strickland received a strict 45-day suspension regardless of that injury, with 30 days no contact. The same goes for Chimaev, who also received a 45-day suspension with 30 days no contact.
In the co-main event, Joshua Van scored a late fifth-round knockout to defeat Tatsuro Taira and retain his UFC flyweight championship. But neither fighter walked away unscathed, with Van and Taira receiving indefinite suspensions from the athletic commission.
Van was hit with an indefinite suspension until he gets clearance from an orthopedist on his left hand, while Taira was handed an indefinite suspension until he gets cleared by a pending CT head scan.
Van was also handed a 30-day suspension with 21 days no contact, while Taira was suspended for 90 days with 60 days no contact after he suffered a knockout loss.
