Jim Miller extended his record for the most wins in UFC history with a slick first-round guillotine choke submission to finish Jared Gordon at UFC 328 on Saturday.
Fighting in front of his home state crowd in New Jersey and returning to action after more than a year away, Miller looked as good as ever as he attacked Gordon on the feet early and then took full advantage of one mistake form his opponent. After Gordon caught a kick and looked for a takedown, Miller immediately recognized an opening on the neck and he snatched a guillotine choke — one of his nastiest submissions.
Miller secured the hold with full guard on the ground and despite his best efforts to slip free, Gordon was eventually forced to tap out. The end came at 3:29 in the opening round.
That counts as win No. 28 for Miller — the most in UFC history — and fight No. 48, which is also the most in UFC history. But perhaps more importantly for Miller is this was a win in front of his family with his young son in attendance after he just recently battled through a bout with cancer.
“I’m phenomenally happy,” Miller said after his win. “My family gets to be here tonight. To share this moment with them is amazing. My son went through some really difficult times in the last couple of months, he ended up kicking the shit out of cancer. He’s all good today. We are cancer free.
“One of the things I told him when he was dealing with it, when he first got diagnosed is Millers have been called a lot of names over the years but fragile’s never been one of them. So he fought his way through it. Nothing I’ve ever done in here is as proud as he makes me and his siblings.”
With hopes of getting to 50 total UFC fights before retirement, Miller showed he’s still got plenty left in the tank with a strong striking game before he found the opening for the submission finish.

Miller has five guillotine choke submissions in the UFC and he knew as soon as he snatched the neck that Gordon was likely done.
“I’ve drilled that over and over again so many times,” Miller said. “I’ve drilled it thousands of times and it happens in my sleep. He’s a tough dude.”
Miller moves forward with a 4-2 resume in his past six fights as he continues marking towards his 50th UFC fight, which could be a record that never gets broken.
