King Green laid waste to Jeremy Stephens to pick up his third win in a row as the veteran lightweight scored a rear-naked choke submission to end the opening fight on the UFC 328 main card.
From the jump, Green showed off fast hands on the feet but then decided to plan Stephens on the ground where he unleashed some vicious strikes from the top. It appeared he might end the fight that way but instead, Green found an opening to lock on a rear-naked choke.
With the grip tightened around his neck, Stephens had no choice but to tap out with the end coming at 4:20 in the first round. Afterwards, Green turned to his bosses at the UFC to remind him that he deserves bonus for this victory.
“Hey Hunter [Campbell], hey Dana [White], I’m one of the most exciting men to ever touch this mat,” Green shouted. “I’ve been doing it for years and ain’t nothing going to change. I didn’t get my bonus last time so I had to tell them that.
“You can submit me, you can knock me out but I feel like I’m Michael Myers, you can’t kill me!”
As the fight got started, Stephens was in pursuit with Green keeping his hands low and trying to bait the BKFC veteran into making a mistake on the feet. Green tagged Stephens with a stiff left jab and it looked like he was ready to unleash a flurry when he connected with a low blow that paused the action.
Stephens was struggling to deal with Green’s speed and accuracy as he tried to find a way to produce some offense of his own. A moment later, Green hit a perfectly timed double leg takedown and he immediately started unloading shots from the top looking for the finish.
Green was punishing Stephens with a barrage of punches and elbows before snatching a rear-naked choke. The submission was locked on tight and Stephens was forced to tap out.
