It appears recovery is going smoothly for UFC light heavyweight champion Carlos Ulberg.
Ulberg (14-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC) suffered a torn ACL in his title-winning knockout of Jiri Prochazka at UFC 327 earlier this month. He successfully underwent surgery in his right knee and has been closely working with the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas.
The City Kickboxing fighter says recovery is going better than expected.
"I'm working with the PI. The staff here have been amazing," Ulberg told UFC News. "(I'm) just real positive about the progress and the rehab. It's an ACL (injury). We went into the surgery thinking this could be between six to eight months or so, longer for some. But, you know, with the progress that we've got at the moment, it's only been a week now and we're moving pretty good. I think we've got a good formula going, and the body is healing really fast.
"The doctors are happy, the staff are happy. It's really nice to be able to work closely with the PI and get the treatment that I need to. In all, I think we're just impressed that the surgery went well. We've done it quickly and promptly and then got on to the rehab as soon as we could. The staff have just been on me about it. We're doing two a day and yeah, I think we'll be all right."
After last Saturday's UFC Fight Night 273 event in Winnipeg, Dana White was asked if the promotion has made a decision regarding a potential interim light heavyweight title fight.
"We have not," White said. "I mean, Carlos is still getting set up here, but we will figure it out."
