Carlos Prates absolutely crushed Jack Della Maddalena earlier this morning (Sat., May 2, 2026) at UFC Perth LIVE on Paramount+ from inside RAC Arena in Perth, Australia, finishing the former UFC welterweight champion with a violent third-round TKO (leg kicks and elbows).
Della Maddalena was making his first Octagon appearance since losing his 170-pound title to Islam Makhachev back at UFC 322 and was hoping to start 2026 off with a bang. Unfortunately for JDM and the Australian crowd, Prates never allowed the former champion to get going. The Brazilian striker was too effective on the feet early on for Della Maddalena to do much of anything. Della Maddalena certainly tried to get his licks, but Prates’ leg kicks and knees inside were too much to handle.
Eventually, JDM started folding whenever Prates landed a leg kick. Prates wanted to finish the fight on the feet, but with Della Maddelana hitting the mat it provided “Nightmare” the opportunity to land heavy ground-and-pound and elbows en route to a vicious TKO finish. It was pretty brutal and an instant crowd silencer.

Prates, 32, is now on a three-fight win streak at 170 pounds and that includes wins over two former UFC champions. There hasn’t been someone like Prates to hit the welterweight division in quite some time so UFC officials could easily grant him the next title shot after UFC Perth’s performance.
