MIAMI, April 16 (UPI) -- Carlos Ulberg lost his new UFC title belt while out partying, just hours after claiming it in Miami, the light heavyweight champion said.
Ulberg defeated Jiri Prochazka by knockout at UFC 327 Saturday at Kaseya Center. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound fighter fought through a right knee injury and knocked out his foe with a left hook at 3:45 in the first round to improve his record to 15-1.
"I've lost the belt, bro," Ulberg told Fox Sports on Wednesday. "Initially after winning, the plan was to not have a drink. But you know how these things go, right? First, someone gives you a champagne to celebrate.
"Then one thing leads to another and you're doing shots."
Ulberg said he did not want to carry his belt around. His group went to an afterparty at a nightclub then back to one of his friends' apartments. He was optimistic about the belt being at the apartment.
"I didn't want to be carrying the belt around so I think it's still there at the apartment somewhere," Ulberg said. "One of the boys probably has it in bed with him."
Ulberg also said he hadn't been to the hospital yet to get his knee examined. He plans to go to Las Vegas to consult doctors about the issue and participate in physical therapy at the UFC Performance Institute.
"I blew out my knee, but I never counted myself out," Ulberg said on the Paramount+ broadcast of UFC 327. "I knew that all I needed that one shot and I ended up getting it."
Ulberg is just the third fighter to knock out Prochazka, joining Alex Pereira and Muhammed Lawal. Cub Swanson, Dominick Reyes, Josh Hokit, Paulo Costa and Carlos Ulberg also earned main-card victories at UFC 327.
