UH men’s basketball team gets 6-9 transfer from Northern Arizona

In a forward-thinking move, the University of Hawaii men’s basketball team secured a signed commitment from a 6-foot-9, 225-pound transfer from Northern Arizona University.
Zack Davidson, who will compete at forward, said his decision is based on his love for the islands, a chance to compete for a title, and his respect for the UH coaching staff.
“It goes without saying the coaching staff has high-character people,” Davidson told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. “They do a lot of winning, which was pretty attractive to me. I’d love to play for a winning team and hopefully get another conference championship. They won in the Big West, and they’re moving to a little more competitive conference. As a competitor, you want to play for the best team in a good conference. I think Hawaii has a great opportunity to do that.”
The Rainbow Warriors won the 2026 Big West Tournament to qualify for the NCAA Tournament. They join the Mountain West on July 1.
Davidson also will be reunited with former Mater Dei High School teammate Scotty Belnap, a 6-5 wing/guard who recently returned from a two-year church mission. Davidson and Belnap will join the ’Bows in June.
“He’s been my best friend since preschool,” Davidson said.
Davidson was a standout at Mater Dei, where he was the CIF Division I Player of the Year as a senior in 2023.
Davidson spent two seasons at Montana, redshirting as a freshman and then playing 16 games during the 2024-25 season. With Montana’s starting posts announcing their returns, Davidson opted to transfer last year, eventually signing with NAU.
He started 13 of the first 14 games, averaging 14.0 points on 61% shooting, before suffering a season-ending injury to his right foot. He has healed completely.
Davidson’s older brother, 6-10 Nick Davidson, played at Nevada for three season and then transferred to Clemson. His younger brother, 6-9 Blake Davidson, recently completed his freshman season at Clemson. His father, Kirk, who died last year, and mother, Kelly, played basketball and volleyball, respectively, at Nevada.
Davidson often accompanied his father on business trips to Oahu. He surfed off Waikiki Beach — on a long board, of course — and enjoyed his favorite snack.
“You can’t get enough of the 7-Eleven Spam musubi,” Davidson said.
