In an interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, Hoeneß made no secret of his doubts, or downright disdain, for the current national team, who are just about a month away from kicking off their latest World Cup campaign in North America. “If Germany manages to become a team even though the coach hasn’t managed to play with the same eleven twice in a row – then we have a chance,” said Hoeneß. The not-so-subtle criticism was followed by some even less subtle comments regarding the talent in the Germany squad. “The situation is the same as with us at FC Bayern. Before the season, everyone said: the squad is too small, the squad isn’t good enough. But then the coach improved all the players, and above all, he turned them into a team,” he said. “But our national team coach thinks he wins the games. No, the team wins the games.” Regarding results, Germany is in a pretty decent run of form, having won every single one of their seven games since their defeat to Slovakia last September. However, their way of playing has not impressed a lot of fans, and it seems Hoeneß is one of them.
