The North Carolina Tar Heels are among the top seven schools vying for NC State transfer Matt Able, a former top 20 recruit. Able averaged 9.2 points per game last season and is also considering Baylor, Stanford, UCLA, Miami, UConn, and Virginia.
The North Carolina Tar Heels have been active in the transfer portal, building the roster under new head coach Michael Malone. After the announcement of the hiring last week, North Carolina has seen several players leave and find new homes.
They have also added a big pickup in Neoklis Avdalas, a former Virginia Tech guard who can bring some much-needed help in the backcourt for Malone's team. But now, they are also in the running for another big-time recruit.
Per Joe Tipton, NC State transfer Matt Able is down to seven schools, including North Carolina. Able is focusing on the Tar Heels, Baylor, Stanford, UCLA, Miami, UConn, and Virginia at this stage in his new recruitment.
Able is a former top 20 recruit who had an impressive season, averaging 9.2 points per game. He shot 37 percent from the three-point line and would be a nice perimeter threat for Malone's offense.
With the portal only open for a limited time, it will be interesting to see how far UNC gets in this recruitment.
