UNC baseball secured a series victory over Georgia Tech, winning two of three games. The Diamond Heels dominated the first two games before losing the final match, showcasing their strength in the ACC.
The UNC baseball team won a massive series against Georgia Tech over the weekend, taking the first two games in a battle between Top-3 teams.
North Carolina began with a 5-2 win in Friday's opener, plating three runs in the first inning. The Diamond Heels (33-7-1, 15-6 ACC) enjoyed an offensive onslaught on Saturday afternoon, mercy-ruling the Yellow Jackets (32-7, 16-5 ACC) in a 14-4 domination, breaking things open with seven runs across the first two innings.
Tech salvaged Game 3 on Sunday, winning 5-2, but not before UNC proved itself as the ACC's best team. There's still a debate between North Carolina and UCLA as the country's best, but fans in Chapel Hill know the answer.
In a series with plenty of top performers, who do you think shined the brightest? While you debate that question, we give you our take below.

Arguably the Diamond Heels' best hitter, Hull cemented this debate over the weekend, producing in nearly every at-bat.
The highlights of Hull's weekend came during Saturday's 14-4 mercy rule, when he reached base three times. Hull drove in UNC's first run with a first-inning single, then broke the game open with a second-inning grand slam, extending UNC's lead to 7-0.
Hull now leads North Carolina with a .390 batting average. Pretty sweet mark for the George Mason transfer.
UNC won the first two games 5-2 and 14-4, while Georgia Tech won the final game 5-2.
Owen Hull was a standout, going 4-for-11 with 1 HR, 8 RBI, and 2 runs.
There is ongoing debate about whether UNC or UCLA is the best team in the country, but UNC's recent series win strengthens their case.
After the series, UNC's record stands at 33-7-1 overall and 15-6 in the ACC.

When your leadoff hitter walks four times in one game, like Schaffner did Saturday, your team is bound to win plenty of games.
Schaffner also recorded three hits on Friday, then again on Sunday. The North Dakota State transfer, a junior, now sports a .337 batting average with 55 hits.
North Carolina pitcher Walker McDuffie (40) prepares to hurl the pitch against Arizona late in the Super regionals game held in Chapel Hill, N .C. on June 7, 2025. The North Carolina Tar Heels and the Arizona Wildcats met in game two of the NCAA Division 1 Super Regionals in Chapel Hill, N.C. on June 7, 2025.
Arguably the best member of UNC's bullpen, McDuffie proved why in two relief appearances over the weekend.
McDuffie closed North Carolina's 5-2 Friday win with a perfect ninth, needing just 13 pitches to end the game. McDuffie struggled a bit with control on Saturday, walking four batters and throwing one wild pitch, but he limited GT's hot bats to just one hit and run apiece.

Though most of his pitching came during Sunday's loss, relieving Folger Boaz after a rough start, Matthijs continued showing progression in recovering from his 2025 injury.
Matthijs faced the final batter of Saturday's mercy-rule, inducing a flyout. Matthijs gave up just one run on Sunday, allowing the Diamond Heels to stay within striking distance.
