North Carolina attacker Chloe Humphrey has been named one of five finalists for the Tewaaraton Award for the second straight year, giving her a chance to win the prestigious honor in consecutive seasons, the Tewaaraton Foundation announced Tuesday.
The Tewaaraton Award, considered the preeminent honor in college lacrosse, is presented annually to the top male and female players in the United States. Selection committees made up of leading college coaches are appointed each year by the Tewaaraton Foundation.
Humphrey, who won both the Tewaaraton and the Honda Sport Award for lacrosse last season, is in the midst of another outstanding year. She leads the nation in goals, with 92, and points, with 133, and her 41 assists are tied for 20th nationally.
The ACC attacker of the year, Humphrey also earned first-team All-ACC and ACC tournament MVP honors while helping North Carolina capture both the ACC regular-season and tournament titles.
For her career, Humphrey ranks fourth on UNC’s all-time points list with 251. Her 182 goals are sixth in program history, and her 69 assists rank 10th. She is also a regular with the U.S. national team and is slated to compete at the world championships this summer.
Humphrey and the Tar Heels enter the NCAA Tournament as the No. 2 overall seed. North Carolina will face the winner of Clemson and Davidson on Sunday at noon at Dorrance Field.
