Alexei PergandeĀ is on the radar as a true featherweight prospect after beating UFC veteran Julio Arce at PFL Pittsburgh.
The 24-year-old has spent his entire professional career under the PFL banner, and after starting his MMA training alongside Michael Chandler in Nashville, has relocated to South Florida over the past four years to train at Kill Cliff FC alongside Chandler and a plethora of other high-level notables.
That path shined through in his performance against Arce on March 28, where Pergande (8-0) used superior striking and cage generalship to emerge with the unanimous decision win.
"I know what it takes to beat these high-level guys and do well against them," Pergande told MMA Junkie. "I wouldn't say anything necessarily surprised me in that fight. I knew I had the speed advantage and obviously the height and reach advantage. For me, just picking him on the outside was good. The things that surprised me was obviously his toughness. He just did not want to go down."
Not many fighters get to compete in a top-tier organization from the outset of their career. For Pergande, who joined PFL at 20, it's been the best experience possible. He said he learned from his jump how the system operates and what essentials he needs to embrace and ignore.
"I'm really grateful to be built with PFL and start this early in the promotion because I'm so used to the bright lights and the attention," Pergande said. "The bigger my name gets, the bigger my fights get. It's just like I'm slowly ramping up, and I'm getting used to every crowd being bigger and bigger. It's really nice to see."
In the short term, Pergande said he intends to take a brief break from competition to focus on his wedding in July. Once that's complete, he will target his next fight for late 2026, potentially setting the stage for a run toward the title in 2027.
"I feel like I'm doing everything right," Pergande said. "My socials, my fights, my performances. I'm not gonna sit here and demand a title shot in the next fight or two. I think another two or three good wins, it'll be there. If earlier, sure, cool. I'm taking my time as a professional. I'm not going to rush anything. I'm ready to fight whoever is next. They're probably going to give me another really tough guy next. ⦠I'm ready to start working my way up the ladder for a title shot."
