Drew Shelton, a four-star offensive tackle from Penn State, is ranked No. 14 in the Unpacking Future Packers Countdown for the 2026 NFL Draft. The Green Bay Packers aim to add him as a swing tackle to support their offensive line.
The Unpacking Future Packers Countdown is a countdown of 100 prospects who the Green Bay Packers could select in the 2026 NFL draft.
The Green Bay Packers have their starting offensive tackles, with Jordan Morgan at left tackle to protect Jordan Love's blindside, and Zach Tom is entrenched at right tackle.
A priority for Brian Gutekunst is to add a swing tackle with a potential target on Day 3 of the 2026 NFL Draft, being Drew Shelton. The Penn State offensive tackle checks in at No. 14 in the Unpacking Future Packers Countdown.
A four-star recruit and Pennsylvania native, Shelton started six games at left tackle during his first two seasons with the Nittany Lions. During his final two seasons at Happy Valley, Shelton started 28 games at left tackle.
Shelton is a good athlete and moves like a tight end. He fires out of his stance and shows good mobility as a run blocker. He's more than comfortable on his feet and rarely misses his landmarks. He latches onto a defender and can drive them downfield.
"Shelton’s athleticism can be a strength for him," Daniel Gallen, a Penn State reporter for Lions247, said. "He can get out in space as a lead blocker and could be a fit for an offense that uses some more unique run schemes. Shelton, though, isn’t necessarily a mauler who will plant defenders into the turf, even though he has the size to be that type of player."
Shelton has quick feet and the lateral quickness to keep the corner against speed rushers. He's coordinated in his shuffle and he keeps his balance through contact. He utilizes effective jabs to keep pass rushers off balance. This past season, he gave up one sack and 18 pressures.
"Shelton has the athleticism to stay with quick edge rushers, and he also has the size to hold up against more power rushers, though that might not necessarily be considered the strength of his game," Gallen said. "He held up well across his career through a Big Ten schedule that featured some talent on the defensive line."
At 6-5, 314 pounds with nearly 34-inch arms, Shelton checks the box with his frame. Add that with his athleticism, Shelton certainly reeks of a Day 3 pick for Gutekunst.
With the Packers needing a swing tackle, adding Shelton in the fourth round certainly makes sense. While he never started a game at right tackle, it's not completely foreign to him. He did log 241 snaps at right tackle during his time at Happy Valley.
"Shelton is a developmental prospect with upside," Gallen said. "He’s experienced. He started 34 games and appeared in 48 over his four seasons with the Nittany Lions. He has pedigree as a former Top247 recruit in the Class of 2022. He had the opportunity to learn from New York Jets left tackle Olu Fashanu as his backup (and fill-in starter) in 2022 and 2023, so he enters the NFL as a player who has seen everything there is to see. Shelton would undoubtedly be worth a Day 3 pick as a swing tackle who could have the upside to develop into a starter, or at least provide a high floor with a spot start."
