The Unpacking Future Packers Countdown is a countdown of 100 prospects who the Green Bay Packers could select in the 2026 NFL draft.
The Green Bay Packers addressed a massive roster need when they signed Javon Hargrave in free agency. The veteran defensive tackle has familiarity with defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon and will stabilize the interior of the defense.
Even with Hargave in the fold, the Packers still have work to do at the position. A potential target in the 2026 NFL Draft is Darrell Jackson Jr. The Florida defensive tackle and son of former Seattle Seahawks wide receiver, Darrell Jackson, checks in at No. 5 in the Unpacking Future Packers Countdown.
A three-star recruit, Jackson started his college career at Maryland in 2021. The following season, Jackson transferred to Miami, where he recorded 4.5 tackles for loss and three sacks.
Jackson then transferred to Florida State for the 2023 season. In 2024, Jackson recorded four tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. This past season, he recorded a career high 45 tackles. He also recorded three tackles for loss and one sack.
Jackson didn't start playing football until his junior year in high school. That lack of experience shows up on the tape with his technique and pad level.
However, the wow moments are hard to overlook, as are his measurables. The 6-5, 315-pound defensive tackle has nearly 35-inch arms. His power and short-area quickness helped him stand out during Shrine Bowl practices and then he made a splash when he got a call to compete at the Senior Bowl.
Jackson is a powerful defensive tackle and he's built to dominate inside. He has the girth to clog up running lanes. He roots in against double teams, which allows teammates to clean up the mess. He's just a difficult player to move off his spot. He utilizes his length to keep himself clean. During the past two seasons, Jackson recorded seven tackles for loss and 47 run stops.
Darrell Jackson Jr is a defensive tackle from Florida State, previously a three-star recruit who played at Maryland and Miami.
The Packers are looking to strengthen their defensive line, and Jackson is seen as a potential target to address that need in the 2026 NFL Draft.
At Miami, Jackson recorded 4.5 tackles for loss and three sacks during his time there.
Signing Javon Hargrave addresses a major roster need for the Packers, providing stability to their defensive interior while they continue to evaluate future prospects like Jackson.

Justin Jefferson emphasized that J.J. McCarthy must 'lock in' now that Kyler Murray is with the Vikings. McCarthy's previous season was disappointing, and Murray's arrival could jeopardize his starting position.

From Dane Brugler's Draft Guide: The Beast:
"He flashes dominance in the run game, with the length to keep blockers out of his frame and the play strength to dispose of single blocks. Against double and triple teams, he uses his rare size to absorb force and dig in his heels."
Jackson's pass rush plan is based on power. He’s naturally powerful and drives offensive linemen backward to cave in the pocket. During his final two seasons, he recorded 4.5 sacks and 44 pressures. Jackson's calling card is his ability to muck things up against the run. However, he has the traits to occasionally pressure the quarterback.
There are only so many people on this rock who are built like Jackson. He is a large human and has a ton of power. When you consider the fact that Jackson is still 'new' to the sport, it's safe to think there is still plenty of untapped potential in that powerful 6-5 frame.
If his football skills catch up to his physical traits, a team could be getting a dominant force in the middle of their defense.
With the Packers in the market for defensive tackle help, they could roll the dice on Jackson and what he represents in the third or fourth round.
From Brugler's Draft Guide:
"Jackson might never develop into a playmaker, but he has larger-than-life traits to do the dirty work at nose and occasionally pressure the quarterback."
