Giancarlo Stanton left the game against the Astros due to a calf injury after a sixth-inning play. The Yankees won the game 12-4, marking their seventh consecutive victory.
HOUSTON â Giancarlo Stanton walked from first base to second base after Jazz Chisholm worked a sixth-inning walk Friday night, then the Yankees slugger stood on the base and waved an arm to his dugout.
âI wasnât sure what he was motioning,â manager Aaron Boone said after the Yankees blew out the Astros 12-4 to make it seven wins in a row.
A long J.C. Escarra at-bat later, everyone knew.
When Escarra skied to flyball to left field for a single that banged off the wall, Stanton slowly advanced to third base and stopped there when it looked like he could have scored easily.
While a Yankees athletic trainer headed Stantonâs way, he walked off the field, into the third-base dugout and then straight to a clubhouse training room.
A few minutes later, the Yankees announced Stanton departed with lower right leg tightness.
Boone called it calf tightness after the game.
âHopefully we got ahead of anything serious, but weâll just see where heâs at (Saturday),â Boone said.
Itâs believed Stanton first felt the tightness after he ran out his sixth-inning single.
âI think he didnât want to push it,â Boone said. âHe felt it when he was at second.â
Stanton, who was getting treatment during post-game media availability, will provide an update before Saturday nightâs game.
Chisholm isnât overly concerned.
âNot a lot,â he said. âI think heâs gonna be good. He just, I think, got a little tight. You donât want to risk it with that guy.
âHe hits 30 home runs in 60 to 70 games in the year every year, so we need that bat in our lineup and I think heâs gonna be great.â
Stanton missed a lot of games with calf, hamstring and quad strains in past seasons, the last time in 2024.
