Following an injury to reliever Ben Casparius, the Los Angeles Dodgers called up former USC pitcher Kyle Hurt on Monday. On Wednesday night, Hurt saw his first MLB action since April 2024, closing out the team’s 8-1 win over the New York Mets.
Hurt pitched at USC from 2018-2020 and was drafted by the Miami Marlins in the fifth round of the 2020 MLB Draft. He was traded to the Dodgers in 2021 and made his MLB debut with the team in 2023. On Wednesday, Hurt saw his first MLB action in nearly two years. He allowed one run on two hits working the ninth inning of Los Angeles’s 8-1 victory, recording three strikeouts.
The Dodgers currently have the best record in baseball at 14-4. Hurt will look to earn a regular role in the team’s bullpen as they chase a historic third consecutive World Series championship.
