USM to join Midwest Classic Conference in new realignment approval
The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association’s Board of Control approved a quartet of fast-track conference realignment recommendations at its May meeting, according to a press release from the WIAA on Friday, May 15.
Locally, the Midwest Classic Conference will add University School of Milwaukee in football, along with Catholic Central (Burlington) and Kenosha Christian Life forming a two-school co-op program. Central went 3-7 in 2025 with two of its victories coming in forfeit victories over Dominican and Kenosha Christian Life with the latter forfeiting and cancelling its entire 2025 season. USM went 2-7 as a member of the Metro Classic Conference last season.
The renamed Midwest Division of the Midwest Classic Conference for football will include St. Francis, Racine Lutheran, Milwaukee Academy of Science, Pius XI Catholic and Cudahy. The Classic Division includes Brookfield Academy, University School of Milwaukee, Living Word Lutheran, Kenosha St. Joseph Catholic, Kingdom Prep Lutheran and Catholic Central/Kenosha Christian Life Co-op, the release said.
USM and the CC/KCL co-op program will join what was previously known as the “Small Division” of the Midwest Classic Conference, won by reigning WIAA Division 7 state champion Kenosha St. Joseph. Kingdom Prep Lutheran will also join the now-Classic Division, departing the previously-named “Large Division,” which the release stated is now referred to as the Midwest Division.
Also of note locally, the Midwest Classic Conference as a whole will merge with the Metro Classic Conference to form one wrestling conference, beginning with the 2026-27 school year. The release did not specify if the newly-formed merged conference would be renamed to something else.
