American goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann suffered a broken neck while playing for Italian club Cesena on Saturday, April 18.

Klinsmann was stretchered off after colliding with a Palermo player during the Serie B match, which Palermo won 2-0.

The 29-year-old was taken to the hospital, where he was kept overnight for observation. On Sunday, Cesena revealed Klinsmann had been diagnosed with a fracture in his neck.

"Tests revealed a fracture of the first cervical vertebra, for which the goalkeeper will undergo further tests and a neurosurgical consultation," Cesena said in a statement.
