Verona striker Orban takes ‘full responsibility’ for violent clash with fan
Verona striker Gift Orban has expressed a ‘sincere apology for my behaviour’ after he was caught on camera in physical altercation with fans.
The incident happened in the car park of the Stadio Bentegodi when he was driving away after the 1-0 Serie A home defeat to Milan on Sunday.
A supporter said something, which prompted Orban to stop the car, get out, and physically attack the Verona fan, all under the eye of others who had been hoping for an autograph or picture with the player.
Hellas Verona released a statement condemning all forms of violence, so today Orban responded via his Instagram Stories.

“I wish to sincerely apologise to all the fans for my behaviour,” wrote the Nigeria international.
“I understand how important your support is, and I am sorry if I ignored those who asked for photographs and autographs. You deserve respect, and at that moment I let you down.
“I am also profoundly sorry for how I reacted: there is no excuse for having lost control, and I take full responsibility.
“I promise to learn from this error and do my best. The fans are a fundamental part of this club and I appreciate the passion and loyalty that you show every day.
“I will work hard to win back your trust, not just with words, but with action. Thank you for your continued support. I remain fully focused on giving my best for the club, every time I will set foot on the field.”
Considering that Verona are practically already relegated to Serie B after managing only three victories, nine draws and 21 defeats this season, it is very likely we have seen the last of Orban in the Hellas jersey.
The 23-year-old is on loan from TSG Hoffenhein with an option to buy for €8m, but that is unlikely to be activated after this incident.
He scored seven goals and provided three assists in 28 Serie A appearances for Verona this season.
