After the 2026 NFL Draft, the Vikings GM search got going, at least on a public level (presumably, people were chipping away at candidate research behind closed doors).
The interviews are now rolling out, which is the next step.
Check out what Alec Lewis of The Athletic had to say: āThe Vikings started GM interviews on Monday, per sources. The process is now officially underway. Understanding is that the first round will happen this week. Expecting a pretty methodical path to reach resolution.ā
Admittedly, that could read like a humdrum update, but at least the gears are turning. Slowly, at first, but things are likely to get rolling with some rapidity. Check out what is known and where things are going.
Last week, Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated shared names of external candidates for the Vikings GM job:
After the list, Breer shoehorns an idea into the mix: āAll come from scouting side.ā So, think a touch closer to Rick Spielman than Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, at least in a general sense of understanding the future general managerās background in football.

Internally, the top name to know is Rob Brzezinski. The long-time money man has been steering the ship through these choppy waters, generally receiving praise for his restraint (before getting a few jabs for his 1st-Round selection). He, too, is expected to let his name stand, but Iāve had skepticism about him taking over on a full-time basis for a little while.
Earlier in the week, Kevin OāConnell spoke to the Minnesota media. The GM search came up. How involved was the head coach going to be? His answer: as involved as desired from the organization. Essentially, a political answer that offers nothing specific.
Whoever becomes the new Vikings GM is going to get a team in transition.
A top story is the quarterback battle between Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy. In fact, that unfolding quarterback battle is the story in Minnesota. The old Vikings GM ā Mr. Adofo-Mensah ā was responsible for picking up McCarthy. The short-term Vikings GM ā Mr. Brzezinski ā was responsible for signing Murray. How those factors factor into the mix, if at all, remains to be seen as the Vikings consider QB options.
But then thereās a broader assessment, one that considers the future cap space and draft picks (read more). Moreover, thereās the in-house talent on the roster, a collection of players who are looking to win sooner rather than later. Justin Jefferson, of course, is the top name to know, but heās not alone. All of Jordan Addison, Christian Darrisaw, Brian OāNeill, Andrew Van Ginkel, and many others are difference makers.
Minnesota is a desirable spot to be, a truth that exists for a variety reasons. Inheriting all of talent, though, is perhaps the main reason.

The solution that everyone is waiting for is still going to require some waiting. Indeed, the Vikings GM hire is weeks away, not days away. But while that may arrive as cold comfort for the impatient folks in the crowd, thereās at least some solace in the simple reality of making progress.
Look to the end of May as a soft ceiling for when the new Vikings GM is going to be named.
