The 2027 NFL Draft will take place in Washington, D.C. next year. In that draft, the Vikings still have their first-round pick, but a lot could happen in the next 12 months. Before then, though, there will be plenty of speculation and buildup for the team and who they may add to the roster through the draft in a class that many are saying could be one of generational wealth.
CBS Sports' Ryan Wilson recently released the latest way-too-early 2027 NFL mock draft of the cycle, which has the team going with a replacement for J.J. McCarthy as they are projected to land C.J. Carr. The Notre Dame quarterback is coming off a strong first season as the starter for the Fighting Irish and could become a top pick with another one in 2026.
Wilson explains the Carr pick, writing, "Carr is a Bo Nix-style game manager and I mean that in the most laudatory terms possible. He's a steady-as-she-goes QB, who doesn't make mistakes, shows consistently good touch on deep balls, can throw with anticipation on intermediate throws, has the athleticism to play out of structure and finds ways to make plays -- and that's all just from one year of starting experience."
Carr is someone who could be someone who fans think resembles McCarthy on the field. But in reality, the spark he brings to the Notre Dame offense is much more than what McCarthy brought to Michigan when he was with them.
