Chiefs' draft picks could reshape the NFL landscape, says analyst.
The Minnesota Vikings traded OLB Jonathan Greenard to the Philadelphia Eagles for pick 98 and a 2027 third-round pick during the 2026 NFL Draft. Interim GM Rob Brzezinski cited salary cap challenges as a key reason for the trade.
During day two of the 2026 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings traded OLB Jonathan Greenard to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for pick number 98 in this year's draft and a 2027 third-round pick. There have been rumors of a potential move dating back to the beginning of free agency, and we finally saw the move take place on Friday.
Vikings interim General Manager Rob Brzezinski had this to say regarding why Minnesota made this move:
"We have just spent so much money the last several years that it's not sustainable for us to move forward. Our salary cap situation has been very, very challenging."
The Vikings were in dire straits entering free agency this offseason, and they would make a litany of moves to get under the cap and allow themselves some breathing room to sign free agents. Most notably, the Vikings released both Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargrave, but subsequently replaced them in the draft with Caleb Banks (Florida) and Domonique Orange (Iowa State).
There is now a hole opposite Dallas Turner in terms of rushing the passer. Turner enjoyed a career year last season, totaling 8.0 sacks, but will now be expected to significantly increase that total, as he is now the feature pass rusher on this Vikings defense.
