As the Boston Bruins begin their offseason, the front office has plenty of decisions to consider.
One of those is whether or not to keep forward Viktor Arvidsson. The Bruins acquired the 33-year-old Swedish winger on July 1, 2025, for the small price of a fifth-round pick.
He made that investment well worth it, potting 25 goals along with 29 assists for 54 points on the season. He also had two goals in Round 1.
“I had so much fun, and it was a great year. And I’m happy to talk to Sweens (Don Sweeney) about coming back,” Arvidsson said on Sunday. “It’s just a lot of areas that need to be figured out with my family and stuff like that. You got to think about that, too. Like I said, I had fun, and I really like it here, so I’m open to it.”
Arvidsson skated on the second line throughout the season, playing alongside Casey Mittelstadt and Pavel Zacha. The line finished the season with the third-highest goal differential (plus-19).
Head coach Marco Sturm used the second line in all areas of the game, but he really liked how they matched up against teams’ top lines.
His linemates have spoken about their bond throughout the season, both on and off the ice, and Casey Mittelstadt reiterated that when it was brought up to him on breakup day.
“Arvi (Viktor Arvidsson) already knows where I want him to be, of course. I love playing with him and getting to know him,” Mittelstadt said. “So yeah, of course, I think we all would love to have Arvi back. He’s a character, so we’ll see what happens there.”
It goes beyond his linemates; the head coach has been a big supporter of Arvidsson from the jump.
At the end of the season, Sturm spoke about his working relationship with Don Sweeney and said his involvement is “why maybe certain players ended up in Boston.”
Viktor Arvidsson scored 25 goals and provided 29 assists, totaling 54 points for the season.

Part of Sturm’s support stems from their prior relationship, formed when Sturm was an assistant coach on the Los Angeles Kings’ bench while Arvidsson was there.
Sturm oversaw the power play. Arvidsson was on the power play.
“I think Arvi gave me exactly what I was hoping for. He didn’t disappoint me. He didn’t change at all,” Sturm said. “He was a big part, not just on the ice, but also in this room, as a leader as well. Sweens knows about it, and we all know, we always talk, and he sees it too.”
Arvidsson hit the 25-goal mark for the first time since the 2022-23 season. He has now done it five times in his NHL career.
He also hit 50 points for the fourth time in his career.
“There’s more to it, too. Could be salary cap, could be anything. I really appreciate Arvi coming in and be like the guy he was, and yeah, it would be nice to have him back, but there’s more to it,” Sturm added. “But the one thing I can tell you, I think, that’s what he told me, he did have a lot of fun here playing. I think that’s something that was very important for him.”
In February, AFP Analytics projected Arvidsson to sign a two-year deal coming in with a cap hit of $4.225 million. After the Olympic Break, he recorded 26 (11-15–26) of his 54 points, likely earning himself a bump from his projected pay.
According to PuckPedia, the Bruins have $16,439,167 in current cap space for the 2026-27 season.
Arvidsson and Andrew Peeke are the two unrestricted free agents on the Bruins’ NHL roster. Peeke said Sunday that he loves being a Bruin but plans to keep his contract discussions between himself, his agent, and Don Sweeney.
