FC Bayern Munich won 5-0 against FC St. Pauli, extending their Bundesliga lead to 12 points and breaking the record for most goals in a season. Coach Vincent Kompany emphasized that the team's identity is centered around scoring goals.

Vincent Kompany: 'Our team stands for goals'
FC Bayern won 5-0 at FC St. Pauli on Saturday evening, extending their lead at the top of the table to 12 points, taking another step towards their title defence and gaining confidence for the upcoming Champions League quarter-final second leg against Real Madrid. To top it all off, FCB broke the record for most goals in a Bundesliga season (more). āWhat I find good in general is that our team stands for goals. Thatās just what FC Bayern and also our team are about,ā said coachĀ Vincent KompanyĀ after the final whistle.
Uli HoeneĆ on FC Bayernās newĀ Bundesliga goals record:
Uli HoeneĆ on goals record: 'That's how you make fans happy'
fcbayern.com has gathered the rest of the post-match reaction forĀ you.
Vincent Kompany: āI know itās always easier when you win āĀ Iām not naive. But nevertheless, I think we try everything to really be a family. Today weāre happy but weāve also done that when things havenāt gone as well. I feel thatās perhaps the exact reason why weāre achieving what weāre currently achieving. Not always with the same starting XI, but with a whole team thatās competitive and supports each other.ā
On the goals record: āI said to the team as well: if thereās one person who believes in his moment, itās Leon (Goretzka). The fact he got the goals record is somehow typical of him because he always believes in himself. For me, heās a great example to the boys. And Iām really pleased because I spoke to MrĀ HoeneĆ yesterday about how we were closing in on this record. Itās stood for such a long time, which makes it even nicer that weāve now claimed it.Ā What I find good in general is that our team stands for goals. Thatās just what FC Bayern and also our team are about. I think the boys should be proud of it āĀ but of course, we carry on.ā
Jamal Musiala: āIt felt very good. It was a good game, I was well involved, got my goal. Iām pleased with my performance. Every minute I can get helps me. I saw today that Iāve taken a step forward. There are still a lot of steps I can take, but itās good progress. I feel that my foot is loosening up, itās also about patience. I feel a lot better now. My focus is on Bayern, I want to help the team. Our mindset on Wednesday must be positive.ā
Leon Goretzka:Ā āTo be honest, I wasn't even aware of the record at the time. After the game, a few people told me about it. Itās nice, of course, especially since Iād previously been in the history books for the fastest own goal in Bundesliga history. So, itās even better that Iāve now gone down in history for something different. And obviously, the goal was nice ā I certainly enjoyed it. The coach always says that weāre not even capable of turning it on and off ā we just stay āonā. Of course, a lot goes into it; many little things come together, and eventually that momentum builds, like a locomotive that starts rolling. And we just want to keep it rolling. Itāll still be a huge challenge against Real Madrid. Weāre playing at home, where we feel very comfortable, and the opponents usually donāt. Weāve put ourselves in a good position thanks to the first leg, but thereās still work to be done. Obivously, I always want to start, but we have a strong squad and everyone has to do their part ā whether from the start or maybe just for half an hour. Weāll all be ready, no matter what.ā
Andreas Bornemann (managing director for sport): āWe needlessly gave away some gifts. Thereās obviously no shame losing to Bayern Munich, but I think the margin of defeat is wholly unnecessary because our strengths are actually defence and compactness. Weāve not only come away with no points today, but also given away important goals because goal difference could also be a factor in the end. Weāre now going into the crucial period of the season; itās do or die now, every match counts and perhaps every goal too. I think walking off here with a good performance and a 2-0 loss to Bayern wouldāve given us a different energy than walking off with a 5-0 āĀ a margin that in the end was deserved too.ā
Alexander Blessin (coach):Ā āThe first goal is absolutely avoidable. Weād pointed that out beforehand: Musiala always drifts inside, then heās clear and we donāt cover it properly. Then you more or less leave yourself trailing. Then we had an opportunity and actually moved around quite well, but when you give the opponents six, seven, eight metres of space, thatās just too much. That canāt happen, especially after eight minutes. The other goals annoy me more, though. For the second we lose possession easily in build-up āĀ thatās not like St. Pauli at all. If you donāt know what to do, then just hit the ball into the stands. Those three goals really hurt, that just shouldnāt happen.ā
Hauke Wahl (defender):Ā āWe didnāt make the most of the minor opportunies we had. You have to do that to stay in the game and get something against them. We conceded the goals too quickly after each other. And to be honest, three of the five goals were caused by individual mistakes, which shouldnāt happen.ā
