Virginia Tech head basketball coach Mike Young continues to build his 2026-27 roster. On Wednesday, Young added another piece, landing a commitment from Oklahoma State guard Jaylen Curry.
Curry, a 6-foot-1 guard from Charlotte, North Carolina, played at Calvary Christian Academy (Florida) in high school and initially committed to the University of Massachusetts. In his first year at UMass, Curry averaged 18 minutes and 7.4 points per game. As a sophomore, Curry started all 29 games he played, averaging 30 minutes, 13.3 points, 3.9 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game.
Curry transferred to Oklahoma State for his junior season. He appeared in 33 games for the Cowboys, making seven starts and averaging 10.1 points, 3.5 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game.
Curry played his first two seasons at Massachusetts for head coach Frank Martin, who is a close friend of Young.
Curry has one year of eligibility remaining, but if the NCAA passes the new eligibility rules, he could have two.
He can play either guard spot, but profiles as more of a combo guard, much like Jailen Bedford was last season for the Hokies. Curry is good on both ends of the floor, much like Bedford, who was often Tech’s best defender last season.
Curry is the fourth transfer to commit to the Hokies for next season:
At Oklahoma State, Jaylen Curry averaged 10.1 points, 3.5 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game over 33 appearances.
Jaylen Curry attended Calvary Christian Academy in Florida before playing college basketball.
