The Virginia Cavaliers defeated Virginia Tech on the gridiron in November. It was only UVa’s third football win this century over the Hokies. On Sunday, the Hokies exacted some revenge, flipping the commitment of North Cross (Roanoke, Va.) wide receiver Demarcus Brown to Tech.
A 6-foot-3.5, 180-pound playmaker, Brown initially committed to Virginia back on December 4. He spoke to Chad Simmons of Rivals about why he chose to switch his commitment.
Brown cited two seasons: Culture and development. Relating to the culture, Brown said it was all about family and relationships. He then revealed his Virginia Tech gloves.
North Cross will have a new football coach next season, as Dwayne Priest was out in February after two seasons, including winning a state championship last season.
As for Brown, it didn’t take long for him to build a relationship with Virginia Tech’s new coaching staff, including head coach James Franklin. Brown made the short trip up I-81 multiple times this year already, which led to a comfort level he had nowhere else.
Brown is commitment No. 9 to Virginia Tech’s 2027 recruiting class, all of whom committed on March 19 or later. He is the first player in the 2027 class from Virginia, while the Hokies remain at the top of the list for several in-state prospects. Brown’s teammate at North Cross, offensive tackle Elijah Hutchinson, is a priority for Virginia Tech, but the Hokies are also battling Clemson, Florida and Vanderbilt for his commitment.
Brown is the second receiver commitment for the Hokies in 2027, joining Anthony Roberts from Rolesville, North Carolina.
A big win for the Hokies.
