The week of April 12-18 saw several girls track and field athletes from the Ames area make their final drive to qualify for the Drake Relays, which will be held this week at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
Female track and field athletes from stepped up to the plate on multiple occasions during the week. There were also some thrilling girls soccer games standout performances in girls golf.
There were several female athletes from the area that stood out individually.

Ames anchor runner Emma Stanley runs in the 4x800-meter relay during the Jim Duea Relays high school girls track and field meet at Ames High Stadium on April 14 in Ames, Iowa.
Stanley won the 1,500-meter run for the Ames girls track and field team during the Jim Duea Relays on April 14 at Ames.
Stanley ran a time of four minutes, 43.69 seconds to win the event by over three seconds over Waukee Northwest's Piper Vander Ley. That time ranks 10th among all runners in Class 4A.
Stanley also anchored Ames to a third-place finish in the 4x800 with a time of 9:24.50.
Lohrbach tied for first at the Jaguar Invitational in Ankeny and she was individual medalist during a Gilbert girls golf dual win over Adel-Desoto-Minburn.
Lohrbach carded a 1-under par round of 72 to tie Pleasant Valley's Ella Sherrick for the top score over 18 holes during the Jaguar Invitational at the Briarwood Club of Ankeny on April 13. Lohrbach shot an even par 35 over nine holes during Gilbert's 158-198 dual win over ADM on April 14 at the Ames Golf and Country Club in Ames
The nominees include several standout female athletes from the Ames area, with Emma Stanley being one of them.
The female athletes are competing in track and field, soccer, and golf, with a focus on qualifying for the Drake Relays.
The winner will be announced at the end of the week following the voting period.

Culbertson won the 100-meter hurdles, and she helped Ballard claim a win in the sprint medley relay during the Ogden Invitational girls track and field meet on April 16 at Ogden.
Culbertson won the 100 hurdles with a PR time of 16.36 seconds. She ran the second leg on a Bomber sprint medley team that placed first in 1:58.01.
Carlson placed first in two 9-hole dual meets for the Roland-Story girls golf team during the week.
Carlson shot a 2-over par 36 to earn medalist honors and lead Roland-Story to a triangular victory over Greene County and South Hamilton by 29 strokes on April 13 with a score of 167 at The Hill Golf Course in Grand Junction. Carlson carded a 3-over round of 39 to take the top spot individually during a Norse triangular win over West Marshall and South Hamilton on April 16 at the Jewell Golf and Country Club in Jewell.
Roland-Story shot a 172 as a team at Jewell to easily beat West Marshall (213) and South Hamilton (219) for first.
Goodman totaled three goals for the Class 3A No. 13 Ames girls soccer team during wins over Ottumwa and Marshalltown during the week.
Goodman put two goals into the net during the Little Cyclones' 3-0 victory over Ottumwa on April 13 at Ames. She put another score on the board during a 4-0 victory at Marshalltown on April 17.
