The week of April 12-18 saw boys track and field athletes from the Ames area make one last push to qualify for the Drake Relays, which will be held this week at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
Several male athletes from the area delivered outstanding individual performances in track and field. There were also some exciting boys soccer games and tennis matches featuring Ames-area teams as well as standout performances in boys golf.
There were a number of male athletes from the area that stood out individually.

Colo-NESCO anchor runner Jack Angell runs with baton during the boys sprint medley relay during the Dave Robinson Invitational co-ed track and field meet at Colo-NESCO High School on April 17 in Colo, Iowa.
Angell won both individual boys hurdle races for the Colo-NESCO boys track and field team at the Baxter Bolt Co-ed Relays on April 14 at Baxter.
Angell placed first in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 15.84 seconds. He won the 400 hurdles in 57.10 seconds.
Bouska shot the top 18-hole score among Class 3A boys golfers in the state so far in the boys spring golf season during the Bondurant-Farrar Invitational on April 13 at the Terrace Hills Golf Course in Altoona.
Bouska shot an outstanding 7-under par score of 64 to win the meet by an incredible 8-stroke margin. His score ties Grundy Center's Judd Jirovsky for the top score among all boys spring golfers in Iowa according to Varsity Bound.
Colvin tied for first at the Woodward-Granger Invite, and he was the outright medalist for the Ballard boys golf team during a triangular dual win over Boone and Carroll during the week.
The nominees include several standout male athletes from the Ames area, with Jack Angell from Colo-NESCO highlighted.

Colvin carded a 2-under par score of 68 over 18 holes at the Woodward-Granger Invite to match North Polk's Ty Haisman for the top score. He helped Ballard win the team title at the event with a score of 279.
Colvin shot a 2 over round of 34 over nine holes to take home medalist honors during the Bombers' triangular dual with Boone and Carroll on April 13 at the Carroll National Golf Club in Carroll. He helped Ballard shoot a 154 as a team, beating Boone by one stroke for first place.
Wang scored a dominant win in the No. 1 singles match and he was also part of a decisive doubles win in helping the Ames boys tennis team cruise to an 11-0 victory over Fort Dodge on April
Wang defeated Fort Dodge's Corbin McHone in straight sets with a pair of 6-0 shutouts during the No. 1 singles match. He later teamed with Anirudh Manimaran to take down the Dodgers' Aidan Recker and Jaxon Price in the No. 1 doubles match by scores of 6-1 and 6-0.
Varsa helped the Nevada boys tennis team go to 4-0 on the season with a 9-0 victory over Iowa Falls-Alden on April 14 in Iowa Falls.
Varsa dominated the No. 1 singles match for the Cubs by scoring an 8-0 shutout over IFA's Carter Zollar. Varsa then joined up with Noah Johnson to score another 8-0 victory in the No. 1 doubles match as the Cub duo defeated the Cadets' team of Zollar and Ivan Klimesh.
