Each week, The Herald-Tribune staff will select nominees for the Herald-Tribune Boys Athlete of the Week poll sponsored by Central Florida Behavioral Health Network, Inc. Nominees are derived from scores and stats emailed in by Sarasota and Manatee county coaches during the week to htincoming@gmail.com. Readers can then vote in the online poll to determine the Boys Athlete of the Week.
The Herald-Tribune Boys Athlete of the Week sponsored by Central Florida Behavioral Health Network for April 13-18, 2026, was Venice baseball player R.J. Shields, who won the poll with 52% of the vote.
A poll will be posted at heraldtribune.com each Monday, and voting will end at 10 a.m. Friday each week.

Highlights: Cox tied a school record with 17 strikeouts as he threw a no-hitter in a Class 7A-Region 2 quarterfinal win over Sumner.

Highlights: Hossenloop hit two doubles, the first drove in the Cougars' first run, he scored the game-winning run after the second, and added a sac fly for an insurance run in a 4-2 Region 2A-3 quarterfinal win over Bishop McLaughlin.
Hamlet Perez, Sarasota
Highlights: The left-hander pitched six scoreless innings, allowing 5 hits with 7 strikeouts before Plant City rallied in the seventh to beat the Sailors 3-1 in a Class 7A-Region 2 quarterfinal.
James Anderson, Manatee
Highlights: The junior powered the Hurricanes’ offense with 6 goals and 4 assists in a Region 2A-3 quarterfinal win over Horizon. He fired 11 shots, putting 9 on goal.
Liam Johnston, Cardinal Mooney
Highlights: The freshman attack had three goals and an assist in a Region 2A-3 quarterfinal win over Berkeley Prep.
