The boys volleyball Athlete of the Week poll is now open for voting. Five nominees are highlighted, with key matches to watch this week including Portsmouth vs. Lincoln and East Providence vs. La Salle.
It’s time for another boys volleyball athlete of the week poll!
We had some great options to pull from this week and each of the five nominees are deserving of a win. Before we get into the ballot, which is listed below, here are a few matches to watch this week.
Portsmouth hosts Lincoln on a busy Monday. It’s a matchup of two Division II programs that are chasing West Warwick in the RPI standings. Pawtucket and Juanita Sanchez are in the same boat in divisional play as they also meet on Monday.
East Providence travels to La Salle on Tuesday and the Townies should test the Rams. Might East Providence hand La Salle its first in-state loss of the season?
And then Wednesday brings a big D-III matchup. Mt. Hope, the league defending champions, head to North Providence. The Cougars are third in RPI standings and could unseat the Huskies.
La Salle's Cooper Amaral won last week's ballot with 53% of the votes. The Rams are still perfect against in-state teams after La Salle toppled Hendricken on Thursday. West Warwick's Colin Kelly came in second with 36.49% of the votes.
Congrats to everyone that was on the ballot last week!
Winners will be announced in the following Athlete of the Week poll. But the ballot is really for bragging rights and for the volleyball community to rally around its athletes.
Everyone that made the ballot did something spectacular and deserved recognition. Winning just provides a bit more limelight to an individual performance that could help a team play for real hardware in June.
Have a day on the court. Shine with your play and show why you warranted recognition for an outstanding week of volleyball.
But that’s only the first part. Coaches have been asked to submit results to the Providence Journal before 10 p.m. on the day of the game. That part is crucial – we can’t do this alone and rely on the coaches. Coaches, please send results to pjsports@providencejournal.com and we can take it from there.
Voting closes on Friday at 11:59 p.m. Voting must be done via the ballot below — email submissions will not be accepted. Now it is time for this week’s nominees!

The Bulldogs needed a strong week and Kenyon made it happen. The senior had 10 kills and five digs in a quick sweep of Woonsocket. His standout performance for the week then came in a five-set winner vs. Central on Wednesday as he finished with 31 kills and six blocks.
