Postseason play is upon us for 337 prep sports with high school softball and baseball kicking off the 2026 LHSAA Baseball and Softball State playoffs this week.

Outside of diamond sports, track and field get closer and closer to district meets while new sports emerge in Iberia Parish. Westgate High School ushered in its inaugural girls flag football season this spring, marking the first 337-area school to offer the sport.

With so much happening across Lafayette Parish and its surrounding areas, there were plenty of athletes to choose from for this week’s Athlete of the Week poll.

Here are the nominations for the athlete of the week for April 13-19, which includes athletes from baseball, softball, girls flag football and track and field. Voting will close at 9 a.m. on Friday.

Parker Abshire, baseball, Lafayette: There was no stopping Abshire from getting on base in Lafayette’s first round playoff series win vs Pontchatoula. The senior infielder got on base every single at-bat finishing with seven runs, three RBIs and three hits, including a three-run home run in Game 3.

Nikki Devillier, softball, Cecilia: Devillier’s bat remains hot in postseason play as the Bulldogs took on Plaquemine in the first round. The senior ended the game notching two more home runs under her belt as her team went on to win 18-3 in four innings of play.

John Henry Fitzgerald, track and field, St. Thomas More: Etching his name into STM track and field history is Fitzgerald, setting the new school record in the 1,600-meter race. This is the third school record this season that Fitzgerald has broken.
