Postseason play is upon us for 337 prep sports with high school softball and baseball kicking off the 2026 LHSAA Baseball and Softball State playoffs this week.
Outside of diamond sports, track and field get closer and closer to district meets while new sports emerge in Iberia Parish. Westgate High School ushered in its inaugural girls flag football season this spring, marking the first 337-area school to offer the sport.
With so much happening across Lafayette Parish and its surrounding areas, there were plenty of athletes to choose from for this weekās Athlete of the Week poll.
Here are the nominations for the athlete of the week for April 13-19, which includes athletes from baseball, softball, girls flag football and track and field. Voting will close at 9 a.m. on Friday.

Parker Abshire, baseball, Lafayette: There was no stopping Abshire from getting on base in Lafayetteās first round playoff series win vs Pontchatoula. The senior infielder got on base every single at-bat finishing with seven runs, three RBIs and three hits, including a three-run home run in Game 3.
Nikki Devillier, softball, Cecilia: Devillierās bat remains hot in postseason play as the Bulldogs took on Plaquemine in the first round. The senior ended the game notching two more home runs under her belt as her team went on to win 18-3 in four innings of play.
John Henry Fitzgerald, track and field, St. Thomas More: Etching his name into STM track and field history is Fitzgerald, setting the new school record in the 1,600-meter race. This is the third school record this season that Fitzgerald has broken.

Stevenisha Jones, girls flag football, Westgate: Earlier this month, the Tigers kicked off their first ever girls flag football season, and leading their squad was Jones. The senior has played a key role in her teamās successful start, winning their last two games including a 7-0 win vs Academy of Sacred Heart.
Valerie Brown, softball, Notre Dame: All season long, Brown has been a reliable source of offense for the Pios, and that was the case in their regular season finale vs Northside Christian. The senior led her team with two home runs and four RBIs as Notre Dame went on to beat the Warriors 14-4 in five innings of play.
Conner Stewart, track and field, New Iberia: At the Exit 4 Relays on April 15, Stewart set a new personal best in the 300-meter hurdle event. The senior dual-sport athlete finished with a time of 38.30 seconds, holding the fastest time in Louisiana to date.

All high school varsity players from Lafayette, Acadiana, St. Landry, St. Martin, Vermilion and Iberia parishes are eligible to be placed on the ballot. Nominations must be received by Saturday morning following that week's games for consideration.
