April has been jam-packed with spring sports in Lafayette Parish and its surrounding areas. From hitting streaks to personal bests, there hasn’t been a shortage of storylines in the area as we approach the end of some regular seasons.
With so much happening across Lafayette Parish and its surrounding areas, there were plenty of athletes to choose from for this week’s Athlete of the Week poll.
Here are the nominations for the athlete of the week for April 6-12, which includes athletes from baseball, softball, and track and field. Voting will close at 9 a.m. on Friday.

Carter Champagne, baseball, Erath: Champagne has been looking like a professional hitter these past few weeks for the Bobcats, currently on a 21-game hit streak and counting. Listed at 6-foot and 180 pounds, the middle infielder has been a consistent at-bat for his team. Erath holds a 19-9 overall record are undefeated in district play.
Luke Hewitt, baseball, Catholic-N.I.: The Panthers and Hewitt spoiled St. Thomas More’s senior night on April 9, beating the Cougars 1-0. On the bump was the 6-foot-3 junior who kept STM’s explosive lineup quiet. Hewitt struck out four batters and only gave up four hits for his best outing of the season so far.
Lanie Marks, softball, Rayne: Marks had the hottest bat of them all in the Wolves game vs Northside Christian on April 10. The junior shortstop went 4 of 5, finishing with one single, two doubles, one triple and a home run for 6 RBIs and four runs. Marks led the offensive charge, and Rayne beat the Wolves 15-9 for a dominating win.
Sebastian Rideaux, baseball, ARCA: Rideaux has been a clutch arm for the Eagles this season, who sit at 23-5 overall so far this season. The junior lefty threw a complete-game shutout against Ascension Episcopal on April 7, racking up a 96 pitches along the way. He worked his way out of jams to secure a 4-0 win.

Riley Snier, track and field, Lafayette: As just a sophomore, Snier is having a strong 2026 season. She is currently ranked the fastest girl in the state in the 400-meter event with a time of 55.69 seconds. Snier also serves as the third leg in the Mighty Lions’ 4x400 relays, also ranked the fastest time in Louisiana.
Erin Willis, softball, Cecilia: Strike after strike after strike, that’s all Willis knows. Just two years into her career, and she’s already racked up 1,000 strikeouts for the Bulldogs. Willis hit this milestone on April 9 vs New Iberia when she struck out five batters en route to a 10-6 win vs the Yellowjackets.

All high school varsity players from Lafayette, Acadiana, St. Landry, St. Martin, Vermilion and Iberia parishes are eligible to be placed on the ballot. Nominations must be received by Saturday morning following that week's games for consideration.
