Vote for the Daily Advertiser's Athlete of the Week from April 27 to May 3. Nominations include standout athletes from baseball, softball, and track and field, with voting closing at 9 a.m. on Friday.
Tickets were punched and state championship matchups were held in Sulphur as another jam-packed week of prep sports is in the books.
Four softball teams hailing from the 337 competed in the semifinals and finals of the LHSAA Softball State Tournament. While softball wrapped up another unforgettable year on the diamond, high school baseball finished up the quarterfinals rounds, despite rainy weather delaying some games.
Over in track and field, more tickets were punched for the upcoming 2026 LHSAA Outdoor Track & Field State in Baton Rouge. Well over 100 male and female athletes from Lafayette Parish and its surrounding areas secured a spot in the state meet set for May 7-9.
Here are the nominations for the athlete of the week for April 27- May 3, which includes athletes from baseball, softball and track and field. Voting will close at 9 a.m. on Friday.

Chase Cary, baseball, Rayne: Leading the Wolves to a dominating 1-0 start in the Non-Select DII quarterfinals vs North DeSoto was Cary. Batting at the nine-hole spot, he lead Rayneâs offense with two hits on three at-bats. The Wolves would win the opening game 9-7 in eight innings of play.
Emerson Cullen, track and field, David Thibodaux: All season long, Cullen has been setting records as one of the Bulldogsâ best distance runners. That was the case in the District 4A-II Championship Region meet, where he snagged first place in the 3,200-meter race with a time of nine minutes and 57.41 seconds for his season best.
Lexi Greene, softball, Kaplan: The Pirates clawed their way back in their LHSAA Non-Select DIII semifinals game vs French Settlement. Green got off to a rocky start on the mound giving up some runs as her team fell behind 5-0. Despite her start, Green locked in for the rest of the game as Kaplan would punch its tickets to the finals with an 8-5 victory.

The week featured semifinals and finals of the LHSAA Softball State Tournament and quarterfinals of high school baseball.

Abigail Leger, track and field, Teurlings Catholic: Leger also finished with all gold medals in the District 4A-II Championship as she qualified for state in three events. The junior snagged first place in the 800 and 1,600-meter races and then in third place in the 3,200-meter race.
Sebastian Rideaux, baseball, ARCA: The Eagles are going to the LHSAA Select Division II semifinals after beating Loyola Prep 2-0 in the quarterfinal series. Rideaux got things started for ARCA on the bump in Game 1, pitching all seven innings and giving up four hits. The Eagles would go on to win the game 2-1.
Alaysia Titus, track and field, Lafayette Christian Academy: Titus will have a busy upcoming week at the state meet after qualifying for four events. The senior took home gold in the long jump, triple jump, and the 4x400 relay at the District 2A-II Championship Region meet. Titus also finished in second place in the 200-meter race with a time of 25.72 seconds.
