The time has come again to vote for The Star Press East Central Indiana high school Athlete of the Week, brought to you by IU Health.
The reigning Athlete of the Week is Wapahani softball player Sydney Tomey. Tomey went 1-for-4 with four RBIs to lead Wapahani to its first win of the season with a 21-10 result over Monroe Central on Tuesday, April 28. Tomey drew a bases-loaded walk in the first inning for her first RBI, then blasted a walk-off three-run home run that triggered the mercy rule in the bottom of the sixth. She received 22,926 out of 39,022 votes cast (58.75%).

Destinee Drown, Delta softball: Drown had a big week as Delta went 3-1 with wins over Muncie Central, Wapahani and Wes-Del. She went 2-for-2 with two RBIs in a 17-0 win over Central on Monday, May 4, then went 3-for-4 with three RBIs — including a triple and a home run — during a 17-4 win over Wes-Del in the first round of the Delaware County Tournament on Thursday, May 7.
Carter Flynn, Wes-Del baseball: Flynn pitched a no-hitter as Wes-Del defeated Seton Catholic, 10-0, on Wednesday, May 6. In five innings, Flynn logged 12 strikeouts and allowed just one walk. He also had a strong day at the plate on Monday, May 4, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs in a 12-6 loss to Tri-Central.
Anna Rinker, Yorktown softball: Rinker played a big role in Yorktown's dominant run to a third-straight Delaware County championship. She went 1-for-2 with an RBI-double in an 8-1 victory over Cowan in the first round on Wednesday, May 6, then went 2-for-2 with a double and a home run in a 16-0 semifinal win over Daleville on Saturday, May 9. Rinker capped off her strong week by going 2-for-3 with another home run in a 19-2 win over Delta in Saturday's county championship.
Thomas Brooks, Cowan baseball: Brooks led Cowan to another statement win from the mound, pitching all seven innings while surrendering two runs on five hits and three walks as the Blackhawks defeated Class 2A No. 2 Eastbrook on Saturday, May 9.
Hallie Schwieterman, Jay County softball: Schwieterman had another big week as Jay County went 4-0 with wins over Bluffton, Eastern (Greentown), Elwood and New Castle. Her combined numbers through those four games were 10-for-14 with eight RBIs, including three home runs and two doubles.

Tanner Griffey, Yorktown boys track and field: Griffey won the 100-meter dash (11.233 seconds) and the 100-meter hurdles (16.16 seconds) as the Yorktown boys tied with Delta for the Delaware County boys track championship.
Preston McCorkhill, Wapahani boys track and field: McCorkhill broke his own Delaware County meet record in the 400-meter dash on Friday, May 8, finishing in 49.87 seconds to beat his record of 50.29 seconds set last season.
