Vote now in the Marion Star Athlete of the Week Polls for May 10

The regular seasons are coming to a finish with baseball games, a few lingering tennis matches and conference track meets on tap for the Week of May 11, while softball begins its postseason.

That meets the week that ended May 10 was a full one with lots of stellar performances.

To celebrate those accomplishments, the Marion Star is offering its latest athlete of the week polls for boys and girls at MarionStar.com and its app. Visit as often as allowed. The polls will remain open through early Sunday morning of May 17.

Marion Star Boys Athlete of the Week Poll for May 10

Marion Harding's No. 2 doubles tennis team of Landon Blackford and Matthew Stover went undefeated during the week to help the Presidents earn MOAC championships in the regular season and tournament.

Highland track's Jett Black went 12-feet, 6 inches to win the pole vault at the Galion Kiwanis Invitational.

Mount Gilead track's Tae Davis won the 110 hurdles in 15.63 seconds at the Mount Gilead Invitational.

Cardington track's Carter Sherman won the discus with a throw of 144 feet, 9 inches at the Mount Gilead Invitational.

Northmor track's Thomas Detwiler won the shot put with a throw of 48 feet, 8 1/2 inches at the Mount Gilead Invitational.

Ridgedale track's Breyton Richmond won the 400 meters in 50.19 seconds at the Mount Gilead Invitational.

River Valley baseball's Aiden Bowers went 3-for-3 with four stolen bases in a win over Clear Fork.

Marion Harding baseball's Ray J Scott-Harbolt was the winning pitcher, striking out eight and allowing six hits, plus he added a double, two singles and three RBIs in a win over Pleasant.

Marion Star Girls Athlete of the Week Poll for May 10

Highland track's Kynzie Green won the discus with a throw of 134 feet and the shot put with a throw of 34 feet, 2 inches at the Galion Kiwanis Invitational.

Cardington track's Mikenzie White won the 1600 meters in 5 minutes, 32.85 seconds and was runner-up in the 800 at 2:30.49 at the Mount Gilead Invitational.

Mount Gilead track's Kenlee Trainer won the pole vault at 9-1 at the Mount Gilead Invitational.

Ridgedale track's Maddie McKenzie won the 100 hurdles in 17 seconds at the Mount Gilead Invitational.

Northmor track's Brooke Bower won the 200 in 27.73 and the 800 in 2:26.8 at the Mount Gilead Invitational.

River Valley softball's Chloe Addis hit a home run and drove in four runs in a win over Clear Fork.

North Union softball's Kennedy Harrah hit a triple and single in a conference-clinching win over Bellefontaine.

Marion Harding softball's Bryleigh Young hit a triple, double and single for five RBIs in a win over Galion.

Pleasant softball's Carly Davis hit a home run, double and single for five RBIs in a win over Kenton.

Last week's winners

In last week's boys poll, Pleasant baseball's Alec Columber, who singled twice and doubled for three RBIs in a win over Marion Harding, earned 302 of 416 votes for 49% to win it.

Other nominees were the Ridgedale 4x800-meter relay team of Brogan and Eliott Weston, Isaac Lust and Breyton Richmond, Highland baseball's Jayden Collins, Elgin track's Garret Lowry, Cardington baseball's Wyatt Denney and River Valley track's Colt Craig.

In last week's girls poll, North Union softball's Emma McElroy, who tripled and singled for three RBIs in a win over Jonathan Alder, earned 209 of 347 votes (60%) to win it.

Other nominees were Pleasant softball's Faith Staley, Northmor softball's Madi See, River Valley track's Madalyn Gwinner, Elgin softball's Hayleigh Lowther and Marion Harding track's Niyemah Dixon-Melton.
