Vote! Who should be Maps Credit Union boys Athlete of the Week?

The OSAA spring sports season is marching on and Salem-Keizer area boys athletes across baseball, track and field, golf, volleyball and tennis are regularly putting in impressive performances.

Every week, you get to vote for the Statesman Journal’s Athlete of the Week, sponsored by Maps Credit Union.

Here are the nominees for this week’s boys Athlete of the Week.

• JT Girod, Central baseball
• Josiah Hawkins, Cascade track and field
• Thomas Hess, Dallas baseball
• Derek Olivo, McNary track and field
• Camden Sajovic, McNary baseball
• Riley Wilson, Sprague baseball

Athlete of the Week

JT Girod, Central baseball

Girod, a junior, hit a home run and finished with two hits and two RBIs April 30 in the Panthers’ 10-6 win over South Salem.

Josiah Hawkins, Cascade track and field

Hawkins, a junior, jumped 22 feet, 10 1/2 inches in long jump for the second-best mark in Class 4A this season April 25 at Meet of Champions.

Thomas Hess, Dallas baseball

Hess, a junior, posted three hits and two RBIs, including the game-winning RBI, April 27 in the Dragons’ 9-8 win over Lebanon.

McNary's Derek Olivo is a nominee for Maps Credit Union boys Athlete of the Week.

Derek Olivo, McNary track and field

Olivo, a junior, threw 176 feet, 7 inches in discus for first in an April 29 dual meet with South Salem. It's the top 6A mark this season.

Camden Sajovic, McNary baseball

Sajovic, a sophomore, posted two hits and the game-winning RBI May 1 in the Celtics’ 8-7 win over West Salem.

Wilson, a senior, posted three hits, three runs and two RBIs April 30 in the Olympians’ 17-4 win over Southridge.
