Walt Weiss Reveals What's Fueling Atlanta Braves' Success

The Atlanta Braves were defeated on Thursday, but the team has still enjoyed an incredible start to the 2026 MLB season. At 22-10, the team is simply finding ways to win. There were questions about the squad, especially since a new manager was set to take over. Walt Weiss has stepped up to the challenge and performed well in his new role, though.

Before Thursday's game against the Detroit Tigers, Weiss joined MLB Network and addressed the team's success.

"I know this team like the back of my hand," Weiss said. "I took over a team here that was built to win."

The Braves were built to win entering spring training, but the ball club endured a number of injuries during the spring. Spencer Strider and Spencer Schwellenbach were among the pitchers who suffered injuries. Jurickson Profar was also suspended for the season due to PEDs.

The Braves were coming off a forgettable 2025 campaign and had no shortage of uncertainty during the spring. Despite all of that, they have been one of the best teams in the sport this year.

The players deserve credit as well, but Weiss' performance should not be overlooked. He is clearly making a significant impact as the new manager. Many teams initially struggle after a new manager takes over. While Weiss had previously served in a different role with the team before landing the manager job, there were still questions.

There is still plenty of baseball left to be played in the 2026 season. The Braves have started the season strong, but they cannot take their foot off the gas pedal now.
