The Philadelphia Flyers held the first day of their end-of-season availabilities on Tuesday, starting with the players. There seemed to be a common theme amongst the group.
After getting a taste of playoff hockey and what it is like, the players have been left with a hunger for more and a determination to get back to the postseason. That was echoed by every player who spoke on Tuesday.
Rasmus Ristolainen, for one, is a player who waited until his 13th season in the league to make a playoff appearance. âYou got a little taste. And now, you want to get there every single year,â said Ristolainen. âBefore, you didnât really know what to expect. Now [you have] a little taste. So obviously, that should be the ultimate goal every season. And obviously, then advance as long as possible.â
This time last year, Travis Konecny was hungry for that playoff spot. Now that theyâve got there, the Flyersâ alternate captain is ready to raise the bar. âYou get in, and now you look to next year already, and youâve got to raise the bar again. So that would be getting in again and making another run. I feel like weâre on the right path, and I feel like the players that are helping us coming in are, you know, really elevating our team and helping us. So Iâm really excited to see what happens here.â
For some players, like Trevor Zegras, it was the first playoff action in some young careers. They took it as a learning experience and are ready to do it again. âItâs definitely been a weird last couple of days. Iâm excited for whatâs ahead with this team. [The playoffs were] such a good learning experience for myself and a lot of the other young guys that havenât played in a playoff game, and learning what itâs like to play a series.â

After the Game 4 loss, Tyson Foerster was caught on camera saying, âWeâll be backâ, in the aftermath of the game. On Tuesday, he echoed that statement. âI really believe weâre going in the right direction. And you know, this was a hell of a year, and hopefully next year we can do the same, or even better, for sure.â
Dan Vladar knows the Flyers can take it to another level. He mentioned that he was happy with how the season played out, but heâs ânot satisfied.â Vladar is hungry for me. âIâve probably watched [Carolinaâs Game 4-winner] 150 times, getting more and more mad, and itâs still in me. Itâs another fire, itâs going to be driving me forward.â That sounds like a player on a mission.
Christian Dvorak, a guy whoâs been in the playoffs before, is still feeling it with this Flyers team. âOnce you get a taste of [playoff hockey], itâs addicting. You want more of it. Itâs only going to help us be even hungrier, even during off-season training, and get ready for next season.â
Flyers captain Sean Couturier is ready to take things a step further. âI wouldnât say itâs the beginning of something. I think itâs just somewhere we keep building, the continuation of this rebuild, if you want to say. But I think weâve pushed ourselves to another level, and there are still a couple more levels to get to, to the ultimate goal. So itâs going to be important to kind of set the standards, you know, higher next year, and push ourselves to be back in this situation again.â
They werenât the only players to speak on the topic. But, you get the sense that now that the Flyers know what playoff hockey is like, they want even more.
