As good as Stephen Curry is, the Golden State Warriors’ superstar point guard is 38 years old and doesn’t have the same long-term NBA outlook he once did.
Although Curry will remain in the big leagues for now, ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel recently pointed out that retirement is on the horizon for the future Hall of Famer.
“Retirement is definitely on the horizon for Stephen Curry, but he's not going anywhere,” Siegel wrote on X/Twitter. “Team sources told ClutchPoints that Curry has made it known multiple times throughout the years that he would like to play at least 20 seasons in the NBA.”
If Curry truly wants to reach the 20-season mark, he’ll have to compete at the highest level of basketball for three more years, which is far from unrealistic.
Steve Kerr officially inked a two-year deal to continue coaching the Warriors on Wednesday, giving Curry a clear incentive to hang around for a little while longer. Even if the Warriors move on from Kerr in 2028, there’s a chance Curry could play one more season to reach a monumental milestone that only a few players have achieved.
It helps that the Davidson product is still a generational shooter in his 30s who demands attention on every offensive possession. Curry averaged 26.6 points, 4.7 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game, shooting 46.8% from the field and 39.3% from long range with the Warriors this season.
