TOPEKA (KSNT) â A Washburn Ichabod captured a final weekly MIAA award.
Washburnâs Gavin Wilhelm has been named the MIAA Pitcher of the Week. Its the first time in his career earning the honor.
The Topeka native and Seaman High School alumnus pitched a shutout in the 5-0 win over No. 5 Pittsburg State on Saturday, May 2.
Through 6.1 innings, Wilhelm allowed just one hit and walked two, while striking out five in the win.
On the year, Wilhelm has pitched 34.2 innings while ringing up 32 Ks.
Wilhelm and the Ichabods now turn its attention to the postseason in the MIAA Tournament.
Washburn (21-29, 17-19 MIAA) is the No. 8 seed and will play No. 9 Central Oklahoma (26-24, 17-19 MIAA) in the opening round on Wednesday, May 4. The tournament will take place in Edmond, Oklahoma.
First pitch Wednesday is set for 4 p.m.
