The Washington Huskies lost to the Michigan Wolverines 4-3 in a walk-off for the second consecutive day, blowing a late lead. The Huskies had a 3-1 advantage heading into the ninth inning but couldn't secure the win.
For the second straight day, the Washington Huskies let a multiple-run lead slip away in the ninth inning in a walk-off loss to the Michigan Wolverines, falling 4-3 on Saturday.
Coach Eddie Smith's team fell behind early after third baseman Brayden Jefferis gave the Wolverines an early lead on a run-scoring double in the first inning, before his Husky counterpart, Blake Wilson, tied the game with a solo home run, his first of the year, as part of a 2-for-4 day with a walk and 2 runs scored.
The two teams remained tied until the eighth inning, when center fielder Mic Paul's two-run single gave the Huskies a 3-1 lead. However, Washington's bullpen couldn't hold the lead.
After Carson Boesel allowed a leadoff single to Brenden Stressler, he was lifted for Bryce Johnson, who was only able to record one out in the inning. He let up a game-tying, two-run double to Friday's walk-off hero, Joonsung Park, before Cade Lahoff ended the game on a walk-off single with the bases loaded.
Johnson was charged with 2 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks and fell to 0-3 on the year after starter Jackson Thomas let up a run on 3 hits and 2 walks with 4 strikeouts. Michael Quedens earned the win for the Wolverines and improved to 2-0 on the year after allowing a hit over 2/3 of an inning.
With the loss, the Huskies dropped to 18-24 on the year and 8-12 in Big Ten play. They'll look to avoid a sweep on Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. PT.
