Late on Friday night, the Washington Huskies earned a commitment from one of their top targets in the secondary, four-star safety Isala Aisa Wily-Ava.
The 6-foot-2, 195-pound product of St. John Bosco High School in Southern California, who is ranked as the No. 414 overall prospect and No. 38 safety in the 2027 class by the 247Sports Composite, chose the Huskies over Arizona State, Michigan, and 26 other offers, thanks to a big push from position coach Taylor Mays.
Ever since his return to Seattle, Mays has made Wily-Ava his top priority in the class. Washington hosted him for several unofficial visits over the last year, including the matchup with then-No. 1 Ohio State in September, and Junior Day in March, and has long been considered the favorite to land his services.
While he had previously told Rivals' Greg Biggins that he was going to announce his pledge on June 27, the Huskies continued to surge in his recruitment and were able to win the day before his official visit on June 5.
One thing that made Wily-Ava such an important target was his combination of size, athleticism, and versatility, which makes him a good fit for the down safety spot in defensive coordinator Ryan Walters' scheme, where Alex McLaughlin earned an All-Big Ten honorable mention in 2025.
"He has a rare combination of range, ball skills, instincts, and hitting ability," former 247Sports analyst Greg Biggins wrote in his evaluation. "He’s a big-framed 6-2.5, 195 pounds, and could easily grow into a linebacker by the time he hits college. Has a lean frame and will be able to add a ton of good weight in the coming years. He’s a physical player, a very good open field tackler, and gets downhill and flies off the hash to make a play.
"Wily-Ava is strong in space and an excellent open field tackler. Shows good timing and closing speed as a blitzer and has a really nice all-around game."
With his pledge, Jedd Fisch's coaching staff now holds 14 commits in the 2027 class, which is sitting at No. 13 in the nation according to 247Sports.
