The Washington Huskies have made a major surge in the recruitment of four-star wide receiver Osani Gayles, and on Wednesday morning, the product of Tracy, California, who plays at IMG Academy in Florida, included Jedd Fisch's program in his top five.
The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Gayles, who is ranked as the nation's No. 35 overall player and No. 7 wide receiver by 247Sports, listed Alabama, Notre Dame, Tennessee, and Stanford as his other four finalists while he continues to chip away at his list of 30 offers, with the most shocking development being that USC wasn't listed.
Gayles had previously set an official visit with the Trojans, but according to a report from Rivals' Hayes Fawcett, his summer plans have changed. He's locked in a trip with each of his five finalists, with Alabama on May 29 and Tennessee on June 12 being the only publicly confirmed dates.
Washington currently has three big weekends of visits set for May 29, June 5, and June 19, and as Jedd Fisch and wide receivers coach Kevin Cummings look to continue to add talent at the position, they will presumably be pushing to get him on campus for the final weekend of visits on June 19, when four-star wide receiver Tre Moore will also be on campus.
With two receivers already committed in the 2027 class in four-star prospects Braylon Pope and Zerek Sidney, Gayles is the kind of prospect that, no matter what the numbers look like, Fisch and his coaching staff are going to try to add more high-end talent to the roster.
"Gifted inside receiver with the intelligence, confidence, and polish to elevate any passing attack," 247Sports' Andrew Ivins wrote in his scouting report.
"Manipulates defenders with impressive route tempo as he mixes speeds and snaps out of breaks at crisp angles. Can bypass coverage with advanced releases and easy acceleration...Combative more times than not in 50-50 situations with his play strength...Slippery after the catch as he stacks cuts to avoid would-be tacklers."
