Washington football should make major push for local pass rusher

With two pledges along the defensive line in the 2027 class in four-star defensive tackle Jon Ioane and three-star Matamatagi, Jedd Fisch and the Washington Huskies coaching staff are looking for more reinforcements from the high school ranks.

As defensive line coach Jason Kaufusi and outside linebackers coach Aaron Van Horn look to add five or six players to the front, a late target has emerged in local prospect Achilles Reyna. The 6-foot-7, 240-pound product of Rainier Beach High School in Seattle, who is ranked as the nation's No. 64 defensive lineman and No. 541 overall prospect by the 247Sports Composite, is quickly becoming a sought-after target around the country, and would be an ideal long-term addition to Washington's class.

Reyna currently holds 12 offers with Arizona, California, LSU, and Texas A&M all showing interest in his services, as he's taken unofficial visits to the pair of SEC programs in recent days, while Utah has made a big push to land his pledge, and has lined up an official visit with him for June 12.

As Fisch continues to attempt to build a fence around the state of Washington, adding Reyna would give the Huskies a big boost.

Not only would he continue to add to the in-state resurgence that the Huskies have emphasized on the trail, but Reyna also brings all the physical traits that the Huskies are looking for to the table as Fisch and defensive coordinator Ryan Walters continue to add size and athleticism along the front line in order to compete in the Big Ten.

While Reyna is still new to the game of football, as his 2025 season at Beach was his first playing the sport after focusing on basketball during his first two years at Eastside Catholic, his size, athleticism, and physicality are all very rare. Even though it would, in all likelihood, take him a few years to develop his technique and get comfortable at the college level, his upside is as high as any pass rusher on the West Coast.

Washington's 2027 class currently ranks No. 5 in the country, and if they can add Reyna's pledge, Fisch's staff wouldn't have to look too far for major upgrades along the defensive front, as it's also set to host four-star defensive tackle Tevita Nonu of O'Dea High School for an official visit in June.
