The Washington Nationals were unable to produce anything offensively after a 2-0 loss Wednesday night.

The first inning looked like it was going to be a good start to a strong offensive night. Curtis Mead found himself a double to right. Daylen Lile grounded out second but it was just enough to push Mead and put the Nats in scoring position. But Brady House struck out swinging to close the inning.
The Pirates however were able to get in two runs early in the first. This would be the only runs scored for the rest of the game.
The first inning would be the most action that the Nationals would see for the remainder of the game and the closest that they would get to home. There was never a strong moment for the Nationals where they looked confident enough to get things working behind the bat.
The Nationals continued to leave runners stranded on the bases. Despite getting runners to the bases, it always came down to two outs.

Moving forward, the Nationals will need to become more aggressive behind the bat if they want to avoid another shutout.
The Nationals will face the Pirates one more time to close out the four-game series, tomorrow at 12:35 p.m. before heading back home on Friday where they will play a three-game series against the Giants.
