Morgan Reimer, a sophomore pitcher for the Washington Huskies, has been named to the All-Big Ten Second Team, marking her first all-conference honor. She achieved 23 wins and ranked highly in several pitching categories this season.
Another year, another accolade for Washington Huskies pitcher Morgan Reimer.
On Friday, the Canadian-born sophomore and ace of coach Heather Tarr's pitching staff, who was named D1 Softball's National Pitcher of the Week in late March, found her name on the All-Big Ten Second Team. After she was named to the NFCA All-Mountain Region Third Team, this is the first all-conference honor of her career.
Before some late-season struggles against the likes of top-ranked teams like Oregon and UCLA, Reimer was among the conference's best pitchers, to the point where some analysts believed she was in contention for Big Ten Player of the Year.
Reimer's 23 wins were tied for the second-most in the conference, while she led the Huskies in most major categories and ranked No. 2 in the Big Ten in innings pitched with 168, No. 5 in complete games with 12, No. 8 in ERA at 2.75, and No. 9 in strikeouts with 131.
She also surrendered a .254 batting average against, 1.34 WHIP, and 55 walks, all of which were second on the team behind senior Sophia Ramuno. Reimer also helped lift the Huskies to their first-ever win in the Big Ten Tournament on Wednesday in a complete game effort, where she allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits and 3 walks with 6 strikeouts.
When the Huskies learn where they'll be headed to open up the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, Tarr will most likely lean on Reimer to kick off the playoffs.
