Giselle Alvarez of the Washington Huskies was named to the All-Big Ten First Team after a standout season, hitting a career-high 15 home runs and leading the team in multiple offensive categories. She finished the season with a .376 batting average and 53 RBIs.
After an explosive season at third base for the Washington Huskies, Giselle Alvarez earned proper recognition from the Big Ten on Friday.
Following Washington's defeat in the conference tournament at the hands of the Indiana Hoosiers on Friday, the junior found her name on the All-Big Ten First Team to cap off an impressive campaign where she experienced a major power surge.
Not only did Alvarez launch a career-high 15 home runs, easily surpassing her previous personal best of 9 from her sophomore year, but she also led coach Heather Tarr's team in several offensive categories. That includes her .376 batting average, 68 hits, 53 runs batted in, and 126 total bases.
Alvarez, who started every game and established herself as a staple in the middle of the lineup also ranked inside the top five on the Huskies with her 37 runs scored, 11 doubles, 1.110 OPS, and 5 stolen bases.
Defensively, while mainly working the hot corner at third base, she also spent some time at first and flashed her reliable glove all year long. She committed just 3 errors on 127 chances, good for a .976 fielding percentage, with 78 assists, 46 putouts, and 6 double plays turned.
Alvarez is one of five Huskies who received All-Big Ten honors. She joined first baseman Alexis DeBoer on the First Team, while pitcher Morgan Reimer found her name on the Second Team, while shortstop Melody Acevedo and outfielder Kaycie Burdick both showed up on the All-Big Ten Freshman Team.
