The No. 23 Weatherford College softball team completed a 4-game sweep over Cisco College and is heading to the postseason. They will face top-seeded Odessa College in the Southwest District A Championship starting May 13.
The No. 23 Weatherford College softball team wrapped up the regular season Saturday with two road victories over Cisco College, completing a 4âgame sweep and moving on to the postseason.
The Coyotes will head to the Southwest District A Championship Wednesday through Friday, May 13-15, at Odessa Collegeâs Wrangler Softball Complex. WC, a four seed, will open against top-seeded Odessa, the No. 10-ranked team in the country. The Coyotes and the Wranglers will play at noon on Wednesday.
WC capped the regular season by breaking two team records, posting 24 triples to eclipse the previous mark of 22 and hitting 69 home runs to surpass the record of 66 that had stood since 2013.
Weatherford (38-14 overall, 22-10 in conference) took the opener Saturday, 11â2 in six innings, before finishing the sweep with a 10â4 win in the nightcap.
In game one, the Coyotes put the contest out of reach with consistent offense after a scoreless first inning. Weatherford scored in four straight frames, highlighted by a fiveârun fourth and threeârun fifth.
Joni Jackson went 2-for-4 with a home run and double, while Aofia Noa finished 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and three RBIs. Adeline Glatch added a 2ârun homer, and Alex Graham also homered as Weatherford produced four extraâbase hits.
Kaymie Chandler earned the win in the circle, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits in six innings. She struck out two and walked one.
Weatherford finished with 10 hits in the opener, while Cisco managed four.
The Coyotes completed the sweep in game two by scoring five runs in the third inning to seize control. WC added runs in four different innings and drew eight walks while collecting 10 more hits.
Alex Graham led the offense, going 2-for-2 with a double, a home run, three RBIs and three walks. Karlie Landrum went 3-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs, and Aofia Noa added a 2ârun homer.
Kamryn Mears improved to 16â6 on the season, allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits in six innings. She struck out eight. Addison Brown pitched the final inning in relief.
Weatherford concluded the regular season riding momentum into postseason play after winning 13 of its last 17 games.
Weatherford College won the first game 11-2 and the second game 10-4.
Weatherford College will play at the Wrangler Softball Complex in Odessa from May 13-15.
The team set new records with 24 triples and 69 home runs during the regular season.
