I would use the word cautious. I think sheâs being cautious, and thatâs her decision.â

And caution does make sense, considering how deeply involved she was in helping create this new system in the first place. As vice president of the Womenâs National Basketball Players Association, Collier played a major role in negotiating the groundbreaking 2026 CBA. She became one of theloudest voices pushing for better salaries, improved revenue sharing, retirement benefits, and long-term financial growth for players across the league. In many ways, the supermax contract she just signed exists partly because of the work she helped lead behind the scenes.
So from that perspective, signing a shorter deal may simply be about keeping her options open while the league adjusts to an entirely new economic landscape. âI am so focused on the now. Like I just came off two surgeries,â she said. âI mean, of course, thereâs new opportunities every year and every time you get off your contract, thereâs opportunities. But thatâs again like so far in the future for me. We havenât even started game one of this year, and thatâs not even something Iâm thinking about.â
Napheese attributes the growth she has seen in herself over the years to Minnesota and admitted how she wouldnât have reached her full potential without their unwavering support. Regarding Reeve, Napheesa said, âShe has such a unique ability of finding that balance of great players and great people, thatâs why the Lynx culture has been been what it has been.â
Once her one-year contract expires, Napheesa Collier will hit free agency all over again next offseason. Which means nearly every team in the league would line up for a chance to land a proven superstar like her. And why wouldnât they?
Across the seven WNBA seasons she has played so far, Collier has averaged 18.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game while establishing herself as one of the leagueâs most complete two-way players. But right now, she is just concerned with unfinished business in Minnesota.
But it is worth noting that with the regular season now just a day away and preseason already in the rearview mirror, Collier is yet to make her first appearance of the year for Minnesota. She is expected to make her return in early June post recuperating. As of now, the Lynx superstar continues to hold an OUT status while recovering from the offseason surgeries, leaving fans waiting a little longer to finally see their franchise cornerstone back on the floor.
